What is it?
The word “cryptography” technically means the art of writing codes. When it comes to digital forensics, it’s a method you can use to understand how data is constructed for your analysis.
What is cryptography used for?
- Securing web traffic (passwords, communication, etc.)
- Securing copyrighted software code
- Hiding malicious communication
- Hiding malicious code
Cryptography is a complex subject: there are many different types of encryption techniques. In this lesson, we’ll show how you can use cryptanalysis to determine if encrypted data is present and, if so, how to re-obtain it.
Before we explore the next couple of encryption techniques, let’s cover binary: 0s and 1s.
